The Hurricane Wheels are a family of remote control products aimed
at the professional cinematographer. There are numerous remote
controlled camera gimbal systems on the market, with the Zerouav Z Series, Freefly Mövi
and the DJI gimbal probably being the most common.
Almost all of these gimbal systems, even the ones targeting the
professional market, lack professional quality remote control solutions.

Professional Remote Control Solutions
That’s where the Hurricane Wheels step in. We provide several
solutions for remote gimbal control. Our systems are compatible to
almost all gimbal systems on the market and we work closely with
manufacturers, distributors and cinematographers to achieve the highest
level of quality and support at a yet unmatched price point.
Made in Germany

All of our products are developed with our more than 20 years
background in the film industry. We only use industry standard, high
quality components and all of our products are developed, built and
tested in Germany by a highly trained staff.
Unmatched customer support
For us, when you buy a Hurricane Wheels product, it is the beginning
of a long term business relationship. We believe that you deserve the
best support that we can possibly give you and will try to support you
in any way possible.
You need a custom firmware, we make it for you, often at no extra
cost. You have a problem setting up your system, we talk you through via
phone, Skype or mail.
Our 24 months warranty covers pretty much everything apart from
mechanical damage (dropped/crashed units). We carry a large inventory of
spare parts, so usually repairs can be done quickly.
The system components
The Hurricane Wheels family of products has evolved from a simple USB
interface to control a virtual camera to a full featured remote control
solution for stabilized camera gimbal systems.

We have a modular product line, the Hurricane Wheels Brushless Gimbal Interface Mk1 and a all-in-one solution, providing an compact design and
integrated RC transmitter, the Hurricane Wheels Brushless gimbal
interface Mk2.
In addition, we also have a Joystick as well as a dedicated
RC-transmitter for the MK1. Of course the original USB interface is
still available as well as our one-of-a-kind Gear head Simulator
Software.

Hurricane Wheels Firmware Upgrade - Tutorial

After creating the Hurricane Wheels Brushless Gimbal Interface
(BGRCI), we received a lot of constructive feedback and suggestions from
our customers.
One main concern was to make the setup process easier. With the BGRCI
MK1, it was sometimes a matter of trial and error to interface it to
the existing RC transmitter. Although we found solutions to make our
products work with basically any RC transmitter out there, we felt that
this was to be improved.
So we did, what we initially did not want to do: we integrated a
transmitter module into our system. This led to a complete new design,
which is a bit larger than before and certainly not as flexible, but
with the great advantage a perfect match between wheel interface and
transmitter.
Heavy Duty aluminum housing
We created a heavy duty aluminum housing with mounting holes for
1/4″-20 studs and plates, allowing to mount monitors, video links etc
directly on the interface box. We also provide a cheeseplate if you need
even more flexible mounting options.
Integrated Power Distribution
In order to reduce the cabling, we integrated a power distribution
into the Hurricane Wheels Brushless Gimbal Interface Mk2, allowing to
power devices from commonly available XLR4 jacks (9-36 V, same as input
voltage) as well as a 5 V (1.5 A) USB output
The heavy duty input voltage converter takes from 9-36 V allowing
the use of professional V-Mount or Anton Bauer batteries, as well as 3
or 4 s LiPos, car batteries, camera batteries or 12 V wall warts.
Hurricane
Brushless Gimbal Interface Mk2 Connections: Power in (9-36 V), Power
out (9-36, same as input), regulated 5 V/1,5 A, USB, RP-SMA RF (Antenna)
Integrated transmitter – ready to bind
The integrated transmitter module binds to any Zerouav Z series
Gimbal, DJI Ronin or Gremsy
gimbal, as well as Freefly Mövi M5/10/15 equipped with an optionally
available Futaba or FrSky S-Bus Receiver. We only use genuine parts,
granting you the power and performance of an experienced RC
manufacturer.
From May 2015 all units will ship with their own receiver. This will
make the setup process even easier. The
gimbal automatically detects the presence of the external signal and
switches control to the Hurricane Wheels. This allows easy switching
between different remote controllers.
Electronic gearing, Cal-Button & Direction Switch for each axis
Smooth handwheels
The handwheels are balanced to 0.5g and run smoothly on the high
resolution encoders. Precision potentiometers allow to adjust the
trimming and electronic gearing for each axis individually. In
conjunction with the gimbal controller software this offers a very
powerful, yet simple control over axis speed and damping. We also
integrated locking direction switches, allowing for fast and easy
adjustment of axis directions.
Beginning May 2015, a “PRO” option with ultra high resolution encoders (4096 i/revolution) will be available.
Built in USB Interface
Users of our interface boxes receive a copy of our one-of-a-kind
gearhead simulation software upon request. You can also use the
handwheels for preview or virtual camera work, for example in Blender or
Maya.
